OVERCOMING TEMPTATION - "IT IS WRITTEN"

There is a constant war that is being fought in our world daily and that is the battle between good and evil. Often times this battle goes on knowingly or unknowingly to the Christian believer. This war most times involves things and weapons we may not see or realize immediately but will have implications that will later manifest in the physical world. That is why the apostle Paul in his letter to the Ephesians said 'for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the dark age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places' (Ephesians 6:12)

Most times, thisspiritual battle between good and evil is fought in the regions of our minds. Before a person commits sin, he or she will first
conceive it in the mind and heart before acting it out. for example, if someone writes something about us that is critical or hurts our ego perhaps on social media, the natural tendency is for us to write something back immediately that will hurt or ridicule the person...especially when we know that others would have seen the attack and will be anticipating our response. In this instance, when we choose to respond in a hurtful manner, then we have chosen pride over humility. Humility demands that we do not need to always have the last word. The Bible says in (Proverbs 20:3) It is honorable for a man to stop striving since any fool can start a quarrel. At times we may claim righteousness but are yet full of pride.

Dear Brothers, temptation to sin comes to everyone. Jesus Himself was tempted by satan as recorded in (Luke 4:1-13) An important lesson to be learned in the temptation of Jesus was the way our Lord overcame temptation by using the WORD OF GOD. Every attempt by the devil to tempt the Lord was countered by an effective declaration: "...IT IS WRITTEN...." We too can use this strategy to counter the tempter when he calls.

What is that sin that so easily entraps you? why don't you search the scriptures and find out what God says in His word concerning that sin. You may discover one or two verses, memorize them in your heart. When the devil tries to tempt you (you can be almost certain he will not appear physically but will suggest things to you in your mind), then speak the Word of God to him. So for example when next you are attacked on social media and satan asks you to respond in a malicious manner, you can boldly say to him, 'no, i will not do it for it is written..."beloved, do not avenge yourselves but rather give place to wrath, for it is written vengeance is mine, I will repay says the Lord- (Romans 12:9) also in (Luke 6:27-28) 'Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you and pray for those spitefully use you. When we do so we overcome the devil and record a victory in that battle.

Dear Friends, yes, the Word of God is a powerful weapon of our warfare for the bible says: For the Word of God is Living and Powerful and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)

As we overcome temptation and sin in our lives, we can be rest assured of the Lords Promise, He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life, but I will confess his name before My Father and His angels (Rev 3:5) And let it be so unto us, Amen.
