THE DECEPTION OF ADULTERY 2

From the first part of this discourse, we learnt from scripture that adultery is not just the physical act in itself (see Mathew 5: 27-28) but also encompasses immoral thoughts, fleshly lusts, wrong desires, filthy fantasies etc of our hearts and minds. Hence the one who has committed the actual deed and the one who has nurtured it in his heart have committed the same offence and are liable to judgement. The apostle Paul in his epistle of (2nd Corinthians  7:1) encourages us to cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Dear  Brethren, it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Adultery is a trap of the devil and can only lead to destruction and death. A lot of married folks have sadly formed a habit of committing adultery and blame it on marital problems they have at home...Some may say
They are not sexually satisfied at home while others may attribute their infidelity to being unloved or unappreciated by their spouse. Dear friends are all these excuses really worth it? Is it not better to resolve your marital problems with your partner by talking it over or seek counselling. Is it wise to behave like Esau who sold his birthright for a meal and cried for his fathers blessing when it was too late. Two wrongs can never make a right. Do not destroy your home and your soul because you want to get back at your spouse who cheated on you. If you know that; (A) 'All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness' (2 Timothy 3: 16-17). If you also agree that (B) 'God is not a man that he should lie nor a son of man that he should repent' (Numbers 23;19)

Dear Friends if you believe these two statements that all scripture is inspired of God and he cannot lie then you should be warned about some of the consequences and dangers of adultery as recorded in the bible. let us examine some of them:

'for by means of a harlot, a man is reduced to a crust of bread and an adulteress will prey upon his precious life' (proverbs 6:26)

'whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; He who does so destroys his own soul.wounds and dishonour he will get, and his reproach will not be wiped away' (proverbs 6: 32-33)

'Her house is the way to hell descending to the chambers of death' (proverbs 7:27)

Beloved in Christ, the last one cited in Proverbs 7:27 is particularly scary for the unrepentant adulterer or adulteress. If you are one it is not late. You can still repent by confessing your sins and ask for Gods forgiveness. Accept Jesus Christ as your lord and resolve to abide in Him by keeping His commandments. Flee from adultery just like Joseph fled from Mrs Potiphar; Flee from destruction and death.

'As i live says the Lord God; I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live' (Ezekiel 33:11)
